Foot And Ankle Journals

Ankle and foot pain is the most prevalent symptom of plantar fasciitis (heel pain) and ankle sprains. The foot pain that occurs with plantar fasciitis is usually sharp and occurs after sleeping or relaxing during the first few steps. This is because the tissue (fascia) of the foot and heel contracts when in rest. Upon stretching this contraction, pain develops. However, the pain diminishes once the tissue (fascia) is stretched out. So the pain in your foot normally disappears after a few steps. Ankle sprain pain is usually very sharp and nearly nauseating. Ankle sprains also relate to swelling and bruising.The feet and ankles can be affected by several types of arthritis, including osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis. Pain in the ankles and heels may come from joints themselves, or from muscles and tendons around the joints. Osteoarthritis in the ankle is not very common, but may result from previous injury damage or inflammatory arthritis.
