Abstract

Sodium ascorbate-catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation under aqueous medium

Author(s): Hamzeh Kiyani, Fatemeh Ghorbani

An efficient procedure for the Knoevenagel condensation of various aryl aldehydeswith active methylene nitrile compounds using sodiumascorbate as an efficient, green, inexpensive, and commercially available catalyst in water is reported. The advantages of this work are clean, easy work-up, high yields, and the use of water as environmentally benign solvent.
