Size Exclusion Chromatography Open Access Articles

Size-exclusion chromatography, also known as molecular sieve chromatography, is a chromatographic process in which molecules are isolated by their size, and in some cases molecular weight, by solution. Usually applied to large molecules or complexes of macromolecules such as proteins and industrial polymers. The benefits of this technique include a good separation of large molecules from small molecules with a minimum volume of filtrate and that different solutions can be applied without interference with the filtration process, while at the same time maintaining the biological activity of the particles to be separated. The technique is generally combined with others that further separate molecules by other characteristics such as acidity, basicity, loading and affinity of certain compounds. The promotion of open access is key to the promotion of creativity, socio-economic growth and the flow of information around the world. As such, open access can be described as an instrument that ultimately serves the public good to stimulate the growth of global science while at the same time maintaining the quality of scientific achievements.
