Prevalence

The proportion of individuals in a population having an epidemiology. Prevalence is a statistical concept referring to the number of cases of a disease that are present in a particular population at a given time frame, whereas incidence refers to the number of new cases that develop in a given period of time. Prevalence may be reported as a percentage or as the number of cases per 10,000 or 100,000 people. The way prevalence is reported depends on how common the epidemiology characteristic is in the population. There are various ways to measure and report prevalence depending on the timeframe of the estimate: Point prevalence, Period prevalence, Lifetime prevalence.
