Insulin Alpha-beta Peptide

Insulin may be a peptide hormone produced by beta cells of the pancreatic islets; it's considered to be the most anabolic hormone of the body. It regulates the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and protein by promoting the absorption of glucose from the blood into liver, fat and striated muscle cells. Insulin resistance, hyper-insulinemia and products associated to insulin metabolism can affect the amyloid cascade and promote the onset of Alzheimer`s disease or aggravate the condition, in early or adulthood no matter the event of type 2 diabetes. The changes described in pathological studies and molecular research, classify two sorts of mechanism involved cognitive impairment in these cases: one associated with cerebrovascular events due the action of vascular risk factors, and therefore the other more controversial, non-cerebrovascular mechanism involving the interaction of insulin with Aβ within the entorhinal cortex and hippocampus, also as its synaptogenesis action that involves signaling of intracellular molecular paths within the modulating of neurotransmitters like acetylcholine, norepinephrine and glutamate receptors. Supported a literature review, the role of insulin within the Central systema nervosum is examined alongside its participation within the amyloidogenesis process in progression to Alzheimer Disease.
