Diabetes is the plague of modern times that affects not only the elderly, but also the young. In reality, juvenile diabetes assumes an alarming proportion which causes medical fraternity to have sleepless nights. The International Diabetes Federation ( IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have projected that by the year 2030, 438 million people worldwide will be prey to diabetes. Diabetes can be hazardous to your feet even if a small cut can have serious consequences. Diabetes may cause nerve damage that takes away the feeling in the feet. Diabetes can also decrease blood flow to the feet, making it harder to heal an injury or avoid infection and develop a blister or a sore. It could result in an infection or a non-healing wound that could place in danger of amputation. Proper foot care can avoid or treat these common problems until they cause serious complications.
