Abstract

Study on the Mechanism and Use of High Nitrite Concentrations to Cause Specific Colour Fading

Author(s): Kelvin James

Due to their similar look and flavour, nitrite and edible salt are frequently confused, which can result in nitrite poisoning. Therefore, it is very important to learn how to detect high nitrite concentrations, distinguish between NaNO2 and NaCl, and precisely measure high nitrite concentrations. This work used dilution colorimetry to precisely measure the phenomena of high nitrite concentrations fading to an orange-yellow colour in naphthalene ethylenediamine hydrochloride colorimetric solution. In contrast to NaCl, which showed no such behaviour, the goal is to prevent false negative detection.
