We report the synthesis of Schiff bases of 2-chloro-3-formyl-quinoline with substituted aromatic amines in the presence of acetic acid/ samarium nitrate. The newly synthesized compounds were confirmed 1H NMR and Mass spectral analysis. The new compounds were tested for DNA phtocleavage studies by gel electrophoresis methods. The synthesized compounds were photoirradiated at 365 nm, 2-chloro-3-quinolinyl-methylene-benzenamines were found to promote the photocleavage of plasmid pUC 19 DNAeffectively.
