Abstract
Recent Advancements in Organic Synthesis: From Traditional Methods to Modern Techniques
Author(s): Mei Hui*Organic chemistry plays a crucial and foundational role in the development of sustainable chemical processes, making significant contributions to the advancement and evolution of green chemistry. Green chemistry is an area of chemical science that focuses on reducing the environmental impact of chemical production by promoting the efficient use of resources, reducing waste, and minimizing harmful by-products. It also emphasizes the design of products and processes that are safe for human health and the environment. Within this framework, organic chemistry provides the principles, methodologies, and tools that are essential for achieving these goals.
This review article explores how the integration of organic chemistry into the broader principles of green chemistry has led to a number of innovations, which have transformed both the theory and practice of sustainable chemistry. One of the central areas of focus is the development and use of environmentally friendly solvents. Traditional organic solvents, such as benzene, chloroform, and toluene, are known for their toxicity, environmental persistence, and contribution to air and water pollution. As a result, the need for safer, greener alternatives has become paramount. The use of water as a solvent, supercritical fluids, and ionic liquids has emerged as a promising solution in many organic reactions, offering greater safety and reduced environmental impact. In particular, green solvents are designed to be non-toxic, biodegradable, and, in some cases, recyclable, which makes them suitable for use in large-scale industrial applications.
