Boric acid catalyzed convenient and greener synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthene-11-ones

A simple, efficient, mild and environmentally benign route has been developed for cyclocondensation of aromatic aldehydes, â-naphthol and cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds were carried out in the presence of catalytic amount of Boric acid at reflex temperature. The remarkable advantages of the present method are mild conditions, less reaction time, simple work-up procedure, excellent yields and green aspects by avoiding toxic catalyst and hazardous solvent.
