Abstract

Antimony trichloride (SbCl3) catalyzed solvent free one-pot synthesis of benzoxanthenes

The synthesis of various 14-aryl-14-H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes has been carried out in high yields and high purity by one pot, solvent free cyclocondensation of an aldehyde and â-naphthol using antimony trichloride (SbCl3) as catalyst. Themethod provides excellent isolated yield, short reaction time and easy work up procedure.
