Author(s): K.Narasimha Sarma, M.C.S.Subha, K.Chowdoji Rao

A series of new coumarine derivatives (6a-h) were synthesized from N-(6- bromo-2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl) acetamide (1). The synthetic stages involved condensation of phenylboronic acid (2)withN-(6-bromo-2-oxo-2Hchromen- 3-yl)acetamide (1) (Suzuki coupling) yielded N-(2-oxo-6-phenyl- 2H-chromen-3-yl)acetamide (3a-c) followed by the deportation in presence of base (or) acid media gives 3-amino-6-phenyl-2H-chromen-2-one (4a-c), finally compound (4a-c) coupling with theAdehydes to get coumarine derivatives of Schiff-bases (6a-h) and characterized through IR, 1H-NMR, 13CNMR, Mass spectral data and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds (6a-h) have been screened for antimicrobial activity.
