Author(s): S Youssef, E Elshereafy, M Mostafa

Simple, rapid, sensitive, precise and accurate spectro photometeric methods for the determination of Buspirone Hydrochloride (Bu-HCl) in bulk samples, dosage form and in spiked urine samples were investigated. The methods are based on the formation of a yellow colored ion-associates due to the interaction between the examined drug with Dinitrobenzene (DNB), Bromophenol Blue (BPB), Alizarin Yellow (AY) and Chlorophenol Red (CPR) reagents. A buffer solution had been used and the extraction was carried out using organic solvent, the ion associates exhibit absorption maxima at 430, 410, 410 and 410 nm of (Bu-HCl) withAY,BPB,CPR and DNB respectively. (Bu-HCl) could be determined up to73.8ug/mL, 29.5ug/mL, 105.5ug/mL and 42.5ug/mL, using AY,BPB,CPR and DNB respectively. The optimum reaction conditions for quantitative analysis were investigated. In addition, the molar absorptivity and Sandell sensitivity were determined for the investigated drug. The correlation coefficient wasâ?¥0.998 (n=6) with a Relative Standard Deviation (RSD)â?¤2.66 for five selected concentrations of the reagents. Therefore the concentration of Bu-HCl in its pharmaceutical formulations and spiked urine samples had been determined successfully.
