Ankle Sprains Research Articles

An ankle sprain is a wound to the tough tissue bands (ligaments) that surround and connect the leg bones to the foot. The damage usually happens when you twist or turn your ankle in an unnatural way, by mistake. This can stretch or tear the ligaments this bind the bones and joints of your ankle together.Ankle sprain signs include swelling, tenderness, bruising, discomfort, inability to put weight on the injured ankle, discoloration of the skin, stiffness. Repeated sprains of the ankle can lead to long-term problems, including chronic ankle pain, arthritis and continuing instability.An untreated sprain of the ankle can lead to chronic instability in the ankle, a condition characterized by constant pain and the ankle's giving way. There may have been a more serious ankle injury along with the sprain. It could involve a serious bone fracture which could lead to alarming complications if left untreated.
