Abstract

Development and Characterization of Heterogeneous Kaolin/Ash Based Catalyst System

Author(s): Edeh F, Joel JM, Yelwa JM and Barminas JT

Heterogeneous catalysts were formulated from the ash of roots, stems and leaves of Crotolaria pallida Aiton plant. The catalysts were chemically activated by impregnation with kaolin. Different weights of the activated catalysts were prepared via the wet impregnation method. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray Fluorescence were used in characterizing the catalysts. Additionally, the kaolin/ash based catalyst, when tested on waste cooking oil, possesses a considerable chemical stability and could be reused without major losses in its catalytic activity.
