Solid polymer electrolyte films of pure polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and PVAdopedwithNaCl at differentweight percent ratios were prepared by solution cast technique. The complexation of the salt with the polymer was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transforminfrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies. The glass transition temperature of these electrolyte systems was determined using Differential scanning calaorimetry (DSC) studies. Electrical conductivity was measured using ac impedance analyzer in the frequency range 100 Hz to 1MHz in the temperature range 303-373 K and it was observed that the value of conductivity was found to increase with the increase of salt concentration as well as the dominant conducting species for charge transport in these polymer electrolyte films was examined byWagnerÂ’s polarization technique and it was found that the charge transport in these polymer electrolyte films is predominantly due to ions. Electrochemical cells were fabricated using these electrolyte systems and their discharge characteristics were studied.
