Reprogenetics Review Articles

Reprogentics, broadly defined as a scientific field “encompassing genetic technologies that have reproductive implications” and particularly genetic screening tools such as pre-natal genetic diagnosis (PND), entail moral, societal and cultural issues, resulting in variations between and within countries. For instance, a pivotal study of European countries found that social responses toward genetic screening in Europe ranged from acceptance to hostility. Furthermore, researchers have observed that varied attitudes toward genetic diagnosis tests may exist due to cultural influence(s). These studies, therefore, highlight the possible cultural influence underlying the attitudes to genetic diagnosis in general and in the context of reprogenetics, in particular, thereby also emphasizing the importance of cultural competence and particularly its emphasis on cultural awareness on the part of medical professionals involved in genetic diagnosis and counselling.
