Pharmacogenomics Impact Factor

Pharmacogenomics is the study of how genes influence an individual's response to drugs. This relatively new field combines pharmacology and genomics to produce effective , safe drugs and doses that will be tailored to the genetic makeup of a person. Pharmacogenomics analyzes how an individual's genetic makeup influences his / her reaction to drugs. It addresses the influence of genetic variation acquired and inherited on drug response in patients by correlating gene expression or single nucleotide polymorphism with pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. While both concepts refer to the reaction of drugs based on genetic factors, pharmacogenetics focuses on single drug-gene interactions, whereas pharmacogenomics promotes a more genome-wide association method, integrating genomics and epigenetics when discussing the impact of multiple genes on drug response. Pharmacogenomics will allow the production of tailor-made medicines to address a wide range of health issues in the future, including cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, HIV / AIDS, and asthma.
