Online Journals On Alkaloids

Rauwolfia is a significant variety of the plant family Apocynaceae. There are about one hundred and twenty‐five types of Rauwolfia which are appropriated everywhere throughout the tropical areas of the world (1‐8). The most significant individual from the family is R. serpentina Benth; the rough medication was referred to the old Indians as a helpful febrifuge (8), a solution for snake nibble, and as a remedy for looseness of the bowels. In later occasions it has been utilized for a sleeping disorder, depression and craziness. The nearness of alkaloidal standards in R. serpentina was first called attention to in 1890 by Greshoff (9). In 1933, Chopra, Gupta, and Mukherjee (10) detailed the hypotensive movement of the material extricated from the plant and in 1931 Siddiqui and Siddiqui (11) detached a progression of crystalline alkaloids from R. serpentina. Dynamic compound and pharmacological enthusiasm for R. serpentina has brought about the disclosure of a few new alkaloids (Table I). The disconnection by Muller, Schlittler, and Bein (12) of reserpine, an alkaloid with articulated hypotensive and narcotic movement, has loaned further stimulus to the pharmacological and compound investigation of the alkaloids of R. serpentha. A short rundown of the synthetic parts of R. serpentina will be introduced in this survey.
