Nurse-Physician Teamwork

  Nurse-Physician Teamwork within the Emergency Department: Impact on Perceptions of Job Environment, Autonomy, and Control Over Practice. Teamwork is essential to safety. Few studies specialise in teamwork between nurses and physicians in emergency departments (EDs). Active teamwork practice was related to increased perceptions of a positive job environment, autonomy, and control over practice of both nurses and physicians. Teamwork between physicians and nurses features a positive association with patient satisfaction and outcomes, but perceptions of physician–nurse teamwork are often suboptimal. Increasing face-to-face communication through interprofessional bedside rounding can improve the perceptions of nurse–physician teamwork, particularly among residents and nurses.
