Evolutionary Biology Uses

Evolutionary biology is a sub-field of biology that explores evolutionary mechanisms that have created the diversity of life on Earth (natural selection, human descent, speciation). Evolution is a fundamental principle that unifies biology. Biology can be partitioned in various ways. One way is through the level of organic organisation, from molecular to cell, from organism to population. Besides looking at established evolutionary methods and subjects like population genetics and pathogen evolution. Knowledge of evolution provides an integrative structure for physicians which links otherwise disparate bits of knowledge. It substitutes the prevalent view of bodies as machines with a biological view of bodies shaped by processes of evolution. As with other fundamental sciences, there is a need to teach evolutionary biology both before and during medical school. Most courses in introductory biology are inadequate to develop competencies in evolutionary biology.
