Evolutionary Biology Impact-factor

Evolutionary Biology Journal's impact factor is a metric that represents the total number of citations to recent papers published in the journal. It is also used as a proxy for the relative importance of a journal within its area, with journals with higher impact factors considered to be more important than those with lower impacts. The impact factor was developed for those journals which are indexed in the Journal Citation Reports by Eugene Garfield, the founder of the Institute for Scientific Knowledge  Evolutionary Biology Impact factors are determined on an annual basis. A journal may adopt editorial policies to increase its impact factor. For example, journals may publish a larger percentage of review articles that are generally cited more than research reports. Consequently, the review articles may increase the impact factor of the journal and the review journals will therefore often have the highest impact factors in their respective fields. Many journal editors set their submission policy "only by invitation" to allow only senior scientists to publish "citable" papers in order to maximize the impact factor for the journal. Journals may also attempt to reduce the number of "citable items" As a result of negotiations on whether items are "citable," impact factor variations of more than 300 per cent have been observed. Interestingly, things deemed to be uncitable and thus not included in the estimation of the impact factor can, if quoted, nevertheless join the numerator part of the equation given the ease with which such quotations may be omitted. This effect is difficult to evaluate, because the distinction between editorial comments and short original articles is not always clear. Letters to the editor, for example, can refer to either class.
