Atrial Natriuretic Peptide

Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) or atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) is a natriuretic peptide hormone discharged from the cardiovascular atria that in people is encoded by the NPPA gene. Natriuretic peptides (ANP, BNP, and CNP) are a group of hormone/paracrine factors that are fundamentally related. The primary capacity of ANP is causing a decrease in extended extracellular liquid (ECF) volume by expanding renal sodium discharge. ANP is integrated and emitted via cardiovascular muscle cells in the dividers of the atria in the heart. These cells contain volume receptors which react to expanded extending of the atrial divider because of expanded atrial blood volume.
