Abstract

New metal complexes of oxadiazole-2-thione-based ligands: Synthesis and structural characterisation

Author(s): Riyadh M. Ahmed

New metal complexes of oxadiazole- 2-thione-based ligands are reported. The reaction of 2-methyl-benzoic acid hydrazide, thiophen-2-ylacetic acid hydrazide and isonicotinic acid hydrazide with carbon disulfide and potassium hydroxide in methanol resulted in the formation of the newligands namely; 5-o-tolyl-3H-[1,3,4]oxadiazole-2-thione (L1), 5-thiophen-2-ylmethyl-3H-[1,3,4]oxadiazole- 2-thione (L2) and 5-isoquinolin-3-yl-3H- [1,3,4]oxadiazole-2-thione (L3), respectively. Monomeric metal complexes of the general formula [M(Ln)(en)2]. (where MCl2. XH2O= Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II); X= 6, 6, 0 en= ethylenediamine; n=1, 2, 3)were achieved fromthe reaction ofmetal saltwith heterothe appropriate ligand in presence of ethylenediamine as a coligand. Compounds were characterised by spectroscopic methods (NMR, mass spectra, FTIR andUV-Vis spectroscopy), elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility, atomic absorption, chloride content, andmelting point. Based on above analysis the suggested geometry about metal atoms is distorted octahedral.
