Reduction behavior of p-nitrobenzaldehyde has been investigated electrochemically. Aqueous methanolic solution (1 : 1) of p-nitrobenzaldehyde (1 mM) was used to observe the effects of varying scan rates (50, 100, 200,500 mV/sec.) at pH 4, 7 and 9. Electrochemical reduction was carried out at controlled current to investigate such reduction as a possible synthetic procedure for the preparation of its alcohol. The resulting product was analyzed by chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques.
