cryolipolysis is a cold-induced inflammatory mechanism gradually reduced fat thickness in 90 days after a 30- to 60 minute cold plate exposure to the skin surface. In vitro analysis of the adipocyte response to cold showed that cooling adipocytes to temperatures above freezing but below normal body temperature resulted in apoptosis mediating cell death, indicating that apoptotic injury in adipose tissue was triggered by cryolipolysis. In addition, the subsequent inflammatory response can cause additional damage to those adipocytes not immediately affected by cold exposure.
