Mycobacterial Human Diseases

Mycobacterial infections are a gaggle of multisystem infections caused by the members of the Mycobacteriaceae . These organisms are characterized by their staining and are identified as acid fast bacilli. NTM include all mycobacteria except tubercle bacillus complex and leprosy bacillus . These mycobacterial diseases include tuberculosis, leprosy, Mycobacteria ulcer and Mycobacterium Para tuberculosis.it usually treated with drugs such as rifampin, ethambutol and isoniazid. Mycobacterium leprae is treated with dapsone. Treatment of atypical mycobacterial infections depends upon the infecting organism and therefore the severity of the infection. In most cases a course of antibiotics is necessary. These incorporate rifampicin, ethambutol, isoniazid, minocycline, ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin, azithromycin and cotrimoxazole.
