HIV Genotype

These tests examine the particular genetic structure or genotype of HIV taken from an individual (a standard blood sample is all that's required). It is examined to known to cause of resistance to certain drugs due to the presence of specific genetic mutations. Within group M there are known to be a minimum of nine genetically distinct subtypes of HIV-1 and A, B, C, D, F, G, H, J and K are the subtypes . The human immunodeficiency virus is assessed into two main types: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 was discovered first and is more prevalent worldwide, while HIV-2 is a smaller amount pathogenic.
