Herbal Medicine - Open Access Journals
Herbal
medicine is also called botanical
medicine or phytomedicine. It is refers to using a plant's seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers for medicinal purposes. Herbalism has a long tradition of use outside of conventional medicine. It is becoming more mainstream as improvements in analysis and quality control along with advances in clinical research show the value of
herbal medicine in the treating and preventing disease. Plants had been used for medicinal purposes long before recorded history. Ayurveda is a medical system primarily practised in India that has been known for nearly 5000 years. It includes diet and herbal remedies, while emphasizing the body, mind and spirit in
disease prevention and treatment. Ancient Chinese and Egyptian papyrus writings describe medicinal uses for plants as early as 3,000 BC. Indigenous cultures (such as African and Native American) used herbs in their healing rituals, while others developed traditional medical systems in which herbal therapies were used. An herb is a plant or plant part used for its scent, flavor, or therapeutic properties. Herbal medicines are one type of dietary supplement. They are sold as tablets, capsules, powders, teas, extracts, and fresh or dried plants. People use herbal medicines to try to maintain or improve their health. Many people believe that products labeled "natural" are always safe and good for them. This is not necessarily true. Herbal medicines do not have to go through the testing that
drugs do. Some herbs, such as comfrey and ephedra, can cause serious harm. Some herbs can interact with prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
Open access may be a set of principles and a variety of practices through which research outputs are distributed online, freed from cost or other access barriers. With
open access strictly defined or libre open access, barriers to copying or reuse also are reduced or removed by applying an open license for copyright. The main focus of the
open access movement is "peer reviewed research literature." Historically, this has centered mainly on print-based academic journals. Whereas conventional (non-open access)
journals cover publishing costs through access tolls like subscriptions, site licenses or pay-per-view charges, open-access
journals are characterised by funding models which don't require the reader to pay to read the journal's contents. Natural Products Chemistry & Research is an
Open Access journal and aims to publish most complete and reliable source of information on the discoveries and current developments in the mode of original articles, review articles, case reports, short communications, etc. in all areas of the field and making them freely available through online without any restrictions or any other subscriptions to researchers worldwide.
