Sports Medicine Open Access

Sports medicine, also known as sports and exercise medicine (SEM), is a medicine branch devoted to physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of sports and exercise related injuries. The goal of sports medicine is to help people engage in exercise safely and effectively to attain their goals of training. Sports medicine specialists treat a wide variety of physical conditions including acute traumas such as fractures, sprains , strains and dislocations. They also treat injuries caused by chronic overuse including tendonitis, degenerative diseases and syndrome of overtraining. Sports medicine combines general medical education with sports science specific principles, exercise physiology, orthopedics, biomechanics, sports nutrition and even sports psychology. A sports medicine team may include medical and non-medical specialists including doctors, surgeons, athletic trainers, sports psychologists, physical therapists, nutritionists, coaches, and personal trainers. Open access journals comply with well-established peer review processes, and maintain high standards of publishing.
