Abstract

Synthesis and Characterization of (4z)-4-(Substituted Benzylidene)-5-Methyl-2, 4-Dihydro-3h-Pyrazol-3-One for their Biological Activity

A new series of (4Z)-4-(substituted benzylidene)-5-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one (4a-h) were synthesized by reacting 5-methyl-2, 4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one (2) with substituted benzaldehydes, anhydrous sodium carbonate under reflux. The title compounds have been characterized by IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectral data. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their qualitative antibacterial and in vitro antioxidant activity by agar diffusion and DPPH· methods, respectively. In general, the title compounds have shown mild to moderate antibacterial and antioxidant activity as well.
