In the present work, nickel vanadate has been used as a photocatalyst to degrade malachite green. Superoxide anion radical has been proposed responsible species for reduction of the dye molecules. The optimum parameters obtained for this degradation were pH = 9.5, [Malachite green] = 1.00 x 10-5 M, nickel vanadate = 0.10 g and light intensity = 50.0 mWcm-2. The rate constant of photocatalytic degradation of malachite green at optimum conditions was 4.29 x 10-5 sec-1.
