3-(2-Pyridylazo)-2,4-pentanedione and its metal chelates

The coupling of diazotised 2-aminopyridine with acetylacetone yielded a new type of tridentate ligand. Analytical, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectral data indicate the existence of the compound in the intramolecularly hydrogen bonded azo-enol tautomeric form. Monobasic tridentate coordination of the compound in its [CuL(OAc)] and [ML2] complexes [M=Ni(II), Zn(II) and Pd(II)] has been established on the basis of analytical and spectral data.
