In this study, methanolic fruit extract of Mimusops elengi Linn. was screened to evaluate antioxidant activity, phenolic and flavonoid contents. The fruit extract exhibited significant reducing power and free radical scavenging effect on DPPH free radical, superoxide radical, hydroxyl radical and hydrogen peroxide. All these antioxidant activities were concentration dependent which were compared with standard antioxidants such as BHA, α-tocopherol and ascorbic acid. In addition, total phenolics content of M. elengi fruit extract was determined as gallic acid equivalents and total flavonoid was determined as catechin equivalents. The highest antioxidant activity of M. elengi fruit extract was observed at concentration of 2500 µg/ml.
