The new complexes of the type [Cr(CQ)3](PF6)3 (1) and [Cr(phen)2(CQ)](PF6)3 (2) (where CQ=chromeno(2,3-b)quinoline, phen=1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized and structurally characterized. Binding of these complexes with(ds) DNA were analyzed by absorption spectra, viscosity, thermal denaturation and cyclic voltammetric studies. Detailed analysis revealed that both the metal complexes intercalates into the DNA base stack with CQ as intercalator. The oxidative cleavage activities of the complexes (1) and (2) were studied with supercoiled (SC) pUC19 DNA by using gel electrophoresis, and they show nuclease activity.
